In June 2023, Sunshine Coast Grammar School returned to Timor-Leste on a 10 day Global Awareness Program. The group travelled to Dili, Maliana, Balibo, and Maubisse to learn about Timorese culture and history, connect with local community groups, and explore beautiful landscapes.

In July 2023, 29 students and 4 teachers from Sunshine Coast Grammar School headed to Timor-Leste to reignite their school's connection with community groups in Maliana. Check out this great video by one of the students Tristan Barry-Smith!

What an amazing way to start 2023! We worked closely with UQ Sustainable Energy Program Coordinator Dr Tony Heynen to design and facilitate this tour. Check out this bunch of lucky #sustainableenergy students on a field trip with Program Coordinator Dr Tony Heynen to Timor-Leste to explore Asia's newest nation's energy and sustainability situation! #timorleste has seen a rapid roll-out of government #electrification in recent years, with generation largely provided by unsustainable fossil fuel power stations. But this increased electricity access has not produced major improvements in the agriculture-based livelihoods of people in rural areas, with the country still ranking very low on the Human Development Index. " In July 2018, myself along with 14 other Waverley boys and two teachers travelled to Timor-Leste on the trip of a lifetime. The immersion was the most humbling experience and is something I'll cherish for the rest of my life. I'm sure I speak for all the boys when I say, we had an absolute ball, met amazing people and grew so much as individuals. I couldn't have asked for a better bunch of boys to go on this journey with and I am so grateful for the bonds we formed as a group through the experience. Thank you to Ms O'Sullivan, Mr Davis, Timor Unearthed and anyone else involved in making the trip possible.
